Addas Garden (currently a mosque) in Taif
Description
After the Quraysh’s persecution of Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, and his companions intensified after the death of Abu Talib, Muhammad decided to go to Taif, seeking support and protection from the Thaqif tribe and hoping that they would convert to Islam. [1] So he went out on foot [2] with Zayd ibn Haritha, and it was said that he went out alone, [3] and that was on three nights before the end of Shawwal in the year ten of the mission (3 BC), [4] corresponding to the end of May 619 AD. [2] He stayed in Taif for ten days [5], not leaving any of their nobles without coming to him and speaking to him, but they did not answer him and responded to him harshly. [6] They incited their fools against him and they began to throw stones at him until Muhammad’s feet were bleeding, and Zayd ibn Haritha protected him with himself until he was wounded in the head. [4] And they took him to a wall[7] of Utbah ibn Rabi'ah and Shaiba ibn Rabi'ah, three miles from Ta'if,[2] and the fools of Thaqif who were following him withdrew from him. When Muhammad was reassured, he said: O God, to You I complain of my weakness, my lack of resources, and my insignificance among people. O Most Merciful of the merciful, You are the Lord of the weak, and You are my Lord. To whom will You entrust me? To a distant one who will treat me harshly (he will meet me harshly), or to an enemy to whom You have given authority over my affairs? If You are not angry with me, then I do not care, but Your well-being is more expansive for me. I seek refuge in the light of Your face by which the darkness is illuminated, and by which the affairs of this world and the next are set right, from Your anger descending upon me or Your wrath descending upon me. You are to be blamed until you are satisfied, and there is no power or strength except with You, Addas. When the two sons of Rabi’ah, Utbah and Shaybah, saw what he had suffered, they sent him grapes with their Christian slave named Addas.[5] Addas did so, and when he heard Muhammad say, “In the name of God,” and then ate, Addas looked at his face and said, “By God, these are not the words of the people of this land.” Muhammad asked him, “And from which land are you, Addas? And what is your religion?” He said, “I am a Christian, and I am a man from Nineveh.” He asked, “From the village of the righteous man Yunus ibn Matta?” Addas asked him, “And how do you know who Yunus ibn Matta was?” He said, “That was my brother, he was a prophet, and I am a prophet.” Addas converted to Islam,[8] and leaned over Muhammad, kissing his head, hands, and feet.[1] The Shi’a have denied the story of Addas in their books.[9] For more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Addas https://twitter.com/Athar_Nabawiya/status/693470313330429956
